Same Day Emergency
Dentistry
Under IV Sedation
Dental emergencies can be distressing, particularly for patients who feel anxious or fearful about dental treatment due to past experiences.
The Same Day Emergency Dentistry Under IV Sedation service is designed for patients who require urgent dental care but are unable to tolerate treatment without additional support. This service allows appropriate emergency treatment to be carried out under IV sedation, where clinically suitable.
Who this service is for
This service may be appropriate if you:
- Are experiencing dental pain, swelling, or infection
- Require urgent dental treatment
- Feel unable to cope with treatment due to anxiety or fear
- Have had difficult dental experiences in the past
- May require IV sedation to allow emergency treatment
Not all emergency cases are suitable for same-day treatment under sedation. Suitability is determined only after clinical assessment
What this service offers
Following clinical assessment, it may be possible to provide same-day emergency treatment under IV sedation.
Emergency treatment that may be possible includes:
- Pain relief
- Tooth extraction
- Initial stages of root canal treatment
- Same-day crowns (where clinically appropriate)
The aim of emergency treatment is to:
- Relieve pain
- Control infection
- Stabilise the situation
It is important to understand that not all treatment can be completed in a single visit, and further appointments may be required.
What cannot be guaranteed
Emergency dentistry under IV sedation is carefully assessed on a case-by-case basis.
We cannot guarantee:
- That IV sedation will be suitable
- That all required treatment can be completed on the same day
- That definitive treatment can be provided immediately
The type and extent of treatment possible depends on:
- Clinical findings
- Medical history
- Time required
- Safety considerations
All decisions are made following proper assessment and in the patient’s best interests.
